Concerns about Botox and Bruising

Most people do not bruise when they receive a botox injection.  However, there are a few people that do. This is especially common when the injection is for crows-feet. In that case, the injection is very close to a major blood vessel.  So, if you see a small bruising at the corner of the eye there are a few things you can do ahead of your visit to prevent this effect.

  •  Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen for three days prior to injection
  • No alcohol the night before
  • Just before your injection apply an ice pack near the injection site.

Aspirin and ibuprofen or alcohol have a blood-thinning effect and will promote bruising. The ice pack shrinks the small blood vessels to further reduce this effect.

This minor side effect is nothing compared to the benefits of botox and it’s wrinkle-smoothing qualities.
